A historical review of the 100-year legacy of Hoover's contribution to the vacuum cleaner industry. The Hoover legacy grew as the Company developed a household product in the small town of New Berlin (now North Canton). The success of the portable electric vacuum cleaner rippled beyond the borders of Stark County to make Hoover known internationally as the leader in floor care for generations. August 8, 2008, marks the 100-year anniversary of the Hoover vacuum cleaner business.

Tours begin in a primitive 1840s building that served as the family home until the Victorian farmhouse was constructed. Displayed here are the original tools used by the Hoover family in a tanning and leather goods business that preceded the vacuum cleaner business.

Hoover's historical impact on vacuum cleaner technology is exhibited throughout the Victorian farmhouse amid elegant Victorian decor. Products that feature innovation in vacuum cleaner technology and vintage advertising provide visitors a walk down memory lane.

Available for view are vacuums Hoover produced as 'Anniversary Products' to mark its 25th - 75th Anniversaries. This special anniversary display includes displays of awards received by The Hoover Company dating back to 1914. Also, the prestigious Grand Prize Trophy cups awarded for employee-retiree constructed floats for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Grand Parade from 1992-99 are also displayed with plaques and photos of the celebrated floats.

Another facet of Hoover history showcased is the materials Hoover produced for WWII along with photographs and information of the heart-warming story of the 84 children from England Hoover brought to North Canton in 1940 to protect them from the ravages of war. Video with footage of the children and war production is available for viewing.

Interactives are utilized throughout the tour. Herb gardens tended by members of The Herb Society at the Hoover Historical Center grace the grounds of the Hoover homestead.

Tours are conducted hourly, 1-4 p.m. Weds-Sat. Admission is $$3.00 12 & under Free Advance reservations required for groups of 8 or more and a.m. reservations available M-F

Clyde Singer’s America is a collaboration between the Canton Museum of Art and the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown. Malvern-native Clyde Singer, an artist of the American Scene who studied under the tutelage of Thomas Hart Benton and John Steuart Curry, captured the essence of the American pageant throughout his career. His paintings grasped the vitality of both urban and rural scenes, revealing intimate, humorous and insightful observations of people working, going shopping, chatting in bars, waiting for the subway train, or playing ball. Singer enriched the lives of many throughout eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania not only through art, but also as curator and assistant director at the Butler Institute, and as an art columnist for the Youngstown Vindicator for almost sixty years.
