Mission

The Canton · Stark County Convention & Visitors' Bureau's mission is to attract, orient, and serve visitors, to educated local residents, and initiate projects and programs which promote and grow tourism.

Other Facts

  • Amish Door Restaurant & Village located in the furthest southwest point of Stark County is named for the fact that the owners wanted to reflect that their property was the "open door" to Amish Country.
  • Wilmot/Brewster are also the home to The Wilderness Center, Perennial Vineyards, and Shearers Potato Chip Factory with Gift Shoppe and Tours.
  • Massillon - Western Stark County - Best known for the football fever for the big Massillon & McKinley Game.
  • While Canton is one of America's leading industrial areas, it is also an important agricultural area in the state picture. Canton is the center of nationally known dairy products and poultry farms. Stark County ranks fourth in Ohio in the production of dairy products.
  • Stark County is in a rich agricultural section and has one of the largest and richest vegetable and produce growing sections in the United States. There are also many fruit orchards.
  • Among the natural resources in the county are large deposits of bituminous coal, shale, clay, limestone, sand and gravel.
  • Historically, Stark County is known as the home of President McKinley. A large National Memorial erected to his memory is located in Canton, and is visited annually by more than 200,000 people.
  • The National Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton and is visited by 200,000 people annually.
  • Over 600,000 visitors come to see the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival & Enshrinement.
  • Harry London Candies produces all of Walt Disney's chocolate.
  • Charles & Frank Menches, founders of the original hamburger and ice cream cone were from Canton
  • Canal Fulton is best known for its stretch of the Ohio and Erie Canal & Tuscarawas River. The canal was created to link Lake Erie to the Ohio River.
  • There are three stops on the Underground Railroad in Stark County - Spring Hill Historic Home, Massillon; Haines House, Alliance; and the Hartville Hotel, now the Pantry Restaurant in Hartville.
