"60 Miles of Excitement" is a partnership program between Canton · Stark County, Great Cleveland CVB and Akron-Summit CVB.
Hall of Fame Corridor - 60 Miles of Excitement - Visit four hall of fames in Northeast Ohio - the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Polka of Fame in Cleveland, the National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.
Day One - Canton/Stark County - America's Playing Field
Start your day at MAPS Air Museum "Where History Takes Flight!" This museum offers a wide array of exhibits from the first air ships, World War I, World War II and Korea to the present day. One of the last six remaining Martin B-26 Marauders is being restored to flying condition. Over 15 aircraft adorn this unique museum, the oldest dating back to 1908. This is a hands-on museum allowing visitors to touch a Russian Mig-17, anti-aircraft guns, simulators and blimp gondola. Enjoy lunch or dinner at 356th Fighter Group Restaurant set in the WWII era. Don't forget dessert! Since 1922, Harry London Candies has made some of the finest chocolate in the world.
At the Pro Football Hall of Fame, America's premier sports showplace, experience pro football past and present through inspiring and interactive exhibits. Also features GameDay Stadium, a state-of-the-art turntable theater featuring NFL action in Cinemascope.
Special interests draw visitors to enjoy Historic Downtown Massillon & Forth Street National Register District, which features additional treasures of the community. These treasures include a concise military museum honoring Ohio veterans; a historic brick street lined with fine architectural examples spanning an entire century; murals depicting the Ohio and Erie Canal, a century of football tradition, and the happy days of the 1950's walking and biking trails; and an outstanding public golf course.
To get a real taste of our Amish heritage, enjoy a bountiful family style meal at the Amish Door Restaurant. Their famous roasted chicken, real mashed potatoes and home baked pies are just a sampling of what you can expect. Stroll through five charming Amish Door Shoppes offering everything from that must-have Amish country souvenir and bulk foods (always a favorite with our groups) to Amish crafted wooden toys and snuggly woven throws. And then...
Make a relaxing evening of it and stay in one of the many fine Canton/Stark County Hotels.
Day Two - Take Another Look at Greater Akron!
Goodyear co-founder Frank A. Seiberling financed the construction of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens from 1911 to 1915. This 65-room home is one of the finest architectural examples of English Tudor Revival in the United States. Be sure to see the 70 acres of tailored gardens. Or if the Victorian-era is your forte, visit the Hower House. Find Broadway excitement at the largest professional dinner theatre in the country, the Carousel Dinner Theatre. Enjoy a fabulous sit-down dinner and shows such as Annie, Anything Goes and Cats. You can also take in a show or an Akron Symphony performance at EJ Thomas Performing Arts Hall or the Civic Theatre.
Travel to Brandywine Falls Adventure at Carriage Trade Farm. See some of the oldest farmland of the Western Reserve from the confines of a comfortable tractor-drawn tour wagon. Visit the Inn at Brandywine Falls and take a bread-making or soup-making class. The best part is you get to eat every bite you make!
Located within the Cuyahoga Valley, Hale Farm and Village serves as a time-traveling machine to the past. You experience the sights, sounds and smells of a bustling Western Reserve township where the year is always 1848.
What historic diesel train will take you along the 110-year-old valley route bordering the Ohio & Erie Canal and the Cuyahoga River? The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad winds through the scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Afterwards, relax and enjoy the evening in one of Greater Akron's many deluxe hotels.
Day Three - Touring The Town!
Wake up to a rockin' good time with breakfast at the Hard Rock Cafe, which depicts the history of rock 'n' roll. (Bring your camera!)
Take a guided tour with Northcoast Tours or Lolly the Trolley Tours through the Warehouse District, Cleveland's first neighborhood and downtown's oldest commercial center. Explore The Gateway District, a newly revitalized district that serves as a sports and entertainment destination as well as a dining center. Here you will find both Jacob's Field ballpark and Gund Arena.
For an evening play or matinee visit Playhouse Square in the Theatre District, which is the second largest performing art center in the country. Playhouse Square is home to five beautifully restored theatres, restaurants and hotels. For fun and excitement visit the Warehouse District which features numerous restaurants and nightlife.
Tour the Great Lakes Science Center's 400+ exciting hands-on exhibits and daily demonstrations that engage and amaze. Also, experience the OMNIMAX Theater's giant screen, super-sized images and clear digital sound.
Enjoy lunch at John Q's Steakhouse, which is one of the best steakhouse restaurants.
After lunch, tour the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum! The Rock Hall honors the legendary performers, producers, and songwriters who have made rock and roll the force in our culture that it is today.
